Choose your Leeds JLD Committee for 2023
EVENTS OFFICER:
HOLLY WRIGHT
I would like to apply for the role of Events Officer for the Leeds JLD Committee.

I am a first year trainee solicitor who has worked at Ramsdens Solicitors for 3 years as a paralegal in the Leeds office. I have always had a keen interest in networking events and making connections with others.

I would love to be part of the JLD committee as I am currently a member and I am always keen to meet new people - particularly other junior lawyers and barristers. I am a confident, outgoing and friendly individual and I thoroughly enjoy attending networking events for my firm as well as for my personal and professional growth. I wish to develop this skill by organising and attending events on a larger scale. Following the coronavirus pandemic, networking events are more important than ever for young individuals to make connections across the legal profession. Due to the nature and location of my work, I have connections with several barristers chambers across Leeds, different venues and have worked with numerous charities for fundraising purposes, such as Physcap and various Women’s shelters for domestic violence victims.

I have attended a great number of the JLD events this year and I have thoroughly enjoyed each one - particularly the Ball. I would love to provide my own ideas for events and socials to promote the organisation and business relationships between junior lawyers, barristers, paralegals and students. I completed my LPC at the University of Law and think that events and socials catered more towards students would assist in growing the JLD membership. Moreover, as I previously worked as a paralegal, attending the JLD’s networking events with other individuals who had not yet obtained a training contract, provided me with reassurance that each individual’s career journey runs at a different pace. It is important to cater events paralegals and legal secretaries – that are aspiring solicitors/barristers, to continue to grow the JLD membership.
With regards to event planning, I have organised numerous fundraising events such as bake sales and Christmas collections for domestic violence charities and woman’s shelters. In addition to this, I have organised social events at our Leeds office to encourage staff to connect from all our offices.
I have excellent time management skills as I studied the LPC full time whilst working part-time at my firm. I am aware from my colleagues Ellie and Leanne of the time required in order to fulfil a role on the committee however, I would be able to balance my work life, personal life and Committee work and would be extremely committed to the role.

I am thrilled at the prospect of becoming a member of the JLD committee and organising new events and social ideas to increase promotion, memberships and connections within the junior legal community.
