Lucy Carey

My name is Lucy Carey and I am a trainee solicitor at DAC Beachcroft and would love the opportunity to represent the Junior Lawyers Division as the Charity and Education Officer.

I truly value the work of the Junior Lawyers Division and believe it is an excellent organisation which not only provides networking opportunities through its social and sporting events, educational seminars, and charity fundraising; but also helps to 

foster meaningful personal and legal connections. I have always thoroughly enjoyed attending JLD events and have particularly found the Leeds JLD, as someone who has recently moved to Leeds, to be the most welcoming and supportive environment. I would honour the opportunity to now join the committee and believe I would be a great addition as I am a highly personable, ambitious and organised individual who has always had a passion for giving back to the community. 

During sixth form I was elected by my fellow peers for the role of Charity Captain which involved networking with charities to establish relationships. I was also solely responsible for presenting these charities to the school for my peers to vote for our charity of the year. The responsibility aided my networking, presenting and organisation skills as I was entrusted with maintaining the relationships and organising the school fundraising events. This rewarding experience honed a range of valuable skills, which I am keen to bring to the role of Charity and Education Officer.  

I thoroughly enjoy networking, which I believe to be a key attribute for success within a committee position amongst the Junior Lawyers Division. During my time at the University of Liverpool I was elected, by committee members, to become the Legal Society’s Networking Officer. The leadership responsibility, involving collaboration with firms, service providers and charities greatly fostered my communication, organisation and teamwork abilities. I am very eager to bring these attributes to this role.

Throughout my undergraduate studies, I also enjoyed committing my spare time to voluntary tutoring within the Tutor Trust - an excellent charity who provide free tutoring to disadvantaged school students in the Liverpool region. The role was incredibly rewarding as I was hugely invested in my student’s success, however, it also emphasised the importance of giving back to your local community and the benefits from doing so. I am truly passionate about this and would love the opportunity to increase awareness of this within the role of Charity and Education Officer. 

I strongly believe that giving back to our local and wider community is imperative and something that we should all enjoy and take an active part in doing. I would love the opportunity to demonstrate my passion for this within the role and also help to empower and educate our members, through organising engaging educational talks and seminars as the Charity and Education Officer.
