SPONSORSHIP:
LUCY FRANCES
I'm Lucy, a first-year trainee at Walker Morris and I would love to be the new Sponsorship Representative!

As Sponsorship Representative, I would want to build on the successful sponsorships of the previous years and foster those relationships. I would continue to focus on legal recruitment firms as a big source of sponsorship, as I think that it's important to offer and ensure maximum opportunities for junior lawyers in our network.

Building on the above, I would be excited and willing to reach out to new sponsors and forge new connections. During my role as charities secretary for University of Leeds Law Society, I reached out and created long lasting relationships with three new charities. I think that being personable and professional will enable me to successfully reach new sponsors. I would enjoy the challenge of this as I enjoy pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and I would really appreciate the sense of accomplishment when securing a new sponsorship that benefits the JLD.

I really enjoy working as part of a team, and I would love to work alongside other committee members to create connections and seek sponsorships from a variety of companies and brands. I'm really into sports, having just competed in my first Hyrox and having another two lined up for the new year! I would love to work alongside our sports secretary to continue to work with health and wellbeing businesses around Leeds. I would aim to foster longer term sponsorships with some businesses, for example, a weekly run club could have a permanent sponsor of an independent coffee shop in town or on the docks. Post run coffee and pastries would always be at the same familiar spot! Additionally, a longer-term sponsorship from Ryde or Tribe could allow members to have discounted classes and combine a class with a social occasion too.

I have previous committee experience, having been a careers secretary for the University of Leeds Law Society during my final year, and the charities and community engagement secretary during my second year. I think that both of these roles have given me experience of understanding the workings of a committee and understanding how everyone's roles play into each other. It is so important to always listen and be understanding at meetings, and I think that as an active listener I would be able to take on this role with ease. I am an out-going person who loves to meet new people – one of my favourite things about networking events is leaving with a sense of having met some new, exciting people who have the potential to be a bigger part of my life and career going forward. I think that part of the role of Sponsorship Representative will include understanding the numbers and the requirements of sponsorship agreements. Having just spent my first seat in Tax, I'm now a bit of a pro at excel and would be capable of understanding all necessary parts of the sponsorship process!
