Choose your Leeds JLD Committee for 2026
EVENTS OFFICER:
EMILY WILLIAMS
I am excited to apply for the position of Events Officer on the Leeds Junior Lawyers Division (JLD) committee. As a trainee solicitor at Hall Brown Family Law and a graduate of the University of Leeds, I believe I am well-suited to this role. I am approachable, proactive, and possess strong communication skills, which will be invaluable both in liaising with companies and businesses to plan events, and in ensuring that the events themselves are engaging, inclusive, and appealing to all members. At Hall Brown, I actively assist in organising events across offices and with different professionals, giving me valuable experience in coordinating a variety of social events. I also participate in various junior networking initiatives, where I contribute to planning events on both smaller and larger scales. Through these experiences, I have developed a keen appreciation for the importance of time management, organisation, and creativity in ensuring that large-scale events are prepared well in advance and delivered with a unique scope. I find it hugely rewarding to see these events come to life after careful planning and collaboration. These experiences have strengthened my ability to create events that cater to a wide range of individuals and ensure that everyone feels welcome. I pride myself on my approachable personality and my ability to make sure that both the loudest and quietest voices in the room feel valued. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to join the committee because I believe that these events can play a vital role in building a strong community among junior legal professionals. I recognise the importance of inclusivity and ensuring that bigger scale events cater to peoples differing preferences, ensuring everyone has a comfortable space to connect with individuals. Additionally, I currently have a strong network that can assist with securing sponsorships, which will help us host a wide range of events. During my time at university, I was an active member of the law society, where I helped organise events that fostered community and collaboration among students. Additionally, as the Social Secretary for my college student union, I planned and executed all of the social events. These experiences have equipped me with strong communication skills and enhanced my proactivity, affirming my ability to execute events that with limited timescales and resources. I successfully organised initiatives such as silent auctions, charity bake sales, and my sixth form leavers' ball, demonstrating my dedication and capability in managing responsibilities in a time effective manner.
As a committee member, I would actively work to create engaging and creative events for all members, facilitating relationships that benefit them both personally and professionally. For example, we could collaborate with other JLD committees across the country to host joint events, creating bigger opportunities for networking and attracting a wider pool of junior legal professionals. In conclusion, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve as a Leeds JLD committee member. As Events Officer, I believe I can make a meaningful contribution by organising events that are inclusive, engaging, and memorable.
