About the Event
Leeds JLD Mooting Competition in conjunction with Legally Blogged
Leeds JLD have teamed up with Legally Blogged to run a remote civil mooting competition. The first round will take place during the last week of March.
Prizes will be provided for the winner and the runners up, including mini pupillages with Parklane Plowden Chambers or Park Square Barristers.
Mooting is one of the best activities you can do to get a sense of what it is like to be a legal advocate, giving you the opportunity to think on your feet and argue a case.
It will also be an impressive addition to any CV, whether you are pursuing a career as a barrister or solicitor.
What will the moot involve?
For the first round, you will be given a legal problem in the form of a civil application. You will need to research the relevant law, prepare submissions and present them to the moot judge.
You do not need to have any previous experience in mooting, advocacy or civil law in order to take part in this competition. The legal problem will not be a complicated one and will be accessible to students at all levels of study.
The competition will be judged by looking at participants ability to make relevant arguments, structure their submissions and speak in a clear and persuasive manner.
Prizes
Prizes will be provided for the winner and runners up. Prizes include:
- A mini pupillage with Jade Ferguson of Parklane Plowden Chambers
- A mini pupillage with Chelsea Brooke-Ward of Park Square Barristers
- Wine (or non-alcoholic alternative)
