Choose your Leeds JLD Committee for 2026
EVENTS OFFICER:
LIBBY MORGAN

I am a third-year solicitor apprentice and would like to apply for the role of Events Officer. I would be an excellent fit for this role as during my time so far, I have been heavily involved with the social events planning within Weightmans, meaning I have a good amount of experience. Some of the events I have organised to date include:

  • Christmas party (for 100 people)

  • Summer treasure hunt and BBQ

  • Office Bingo

  • New financial year drinks and pizza

  • Morning Mixer

My experiences have provided me with insight into what people like to have at events and what to avoid, through receiving both positive and constructive feedback which I have taken on board. I have also been able to develop good relationships with local businesses and venues within Leeds, so I have an awareness of suitable companies to use. It has enabled me to effectively communicate what is wanted from the specific event so we can deliver a good experience to all attendees. I ensure all events I organise are inclusive and accessible to attendees.

I am also on the firms ESG and Charity committee meaning I have experience working within a team and volunteering to take responsibility for a range of tasks in a committee setting. I have experience organising charity related events which will be useful for coming up with initiatives for JLD to support their annual charity of choice. I really enjoy these types of activities within the firm so I would like to take it further by planning events for a larger scale of attendees.

I am used to planning events within a set budget which I believe will be useful in this role as JLD is a not-for-profit organisation, so all events are to be planned within a budget. This has helped me develop strong organisational skills and come up with event ideas which are budget friendly which I believe will support me in this role.

I believe I will be a good addition to the committee as during my time as a member over the last 2 years I have attended a large number of events meaning I have made strong connections with members and the committee. Hopefully I should be a familiar face to all those who attend the events. I am friendly and enthusiastic, so would be approachable to all members of JLD, and be able to get stuck into this brilliant role on the committee.

I hope to be considered for this role as supporting young legal professionals to network is something I am passionate about as it was something I myself struggled with when first joining the profession and a skill which I am still developing now. Therefore, I would love to be able to help organise events to help other junior Lawyer’s ease into networking and develop our skills together as well as initiate new ideas to get other apprentices involved.

Thank you in advance for considering my application.
