My name is Macy Wynn and I am a Trainee CILEX Lawyer in the Court of Protection Department at Clarion Solicitors Limited. I am one of the events officers of Leeds JLD for 2025 and have been since 2023. I am stepping into the role of Chair as of January 2025 and cannot wait to continue to support the rest of the committee and bring you all some more amazing events!
How does a regular day go for you?
A day in the life of a Court of Protection trainee (specifically property and financial affairs) is never quite the same, but it usually starts with checking emails and catching up on any urgent updates—maybe a care home has flagged a payment issue, or a deputy needs help preparing an application to sell a client’s property. You might be chasing bank statements, liaising with social workers, or helping to prepare a schedule of assets, income and expenditure. The afternoon might involve updating financial records, drafting annual deputy reports to the Office of the Public Guardian or attending a property to arrange clearance or meet with Estate Agents. It’s a mix of legal work, admin, and real-world problem-solving—and while it can be fast-paced, it’s also incredibly rewarding. You’re helping to protect people who can’t manage their own affairs, and every task, no matter how small, plays a part in that.
What made you want to get involved with the LJLD Committee?
I first got involved with LJLD by attending the Annual Winter Ball in 2021, I was really impressed by the scope of the event and all the people I had met there. It was an amazing way to connect with others who were navigating the same early-career challenges and opportunities in law. Being an apprentice in a fast-paced legal environment I wanted to be part of a community that offered support, shared experiences, and a chance to grow outside of the office. The Events Officer role just felt like the perfect fit. I’ve always loved bringing people together and planning gatherings. The LJLD offered an opportunity to help junior lawyers connect and support each other which was something I knew I needed to be a part of. It’s such a fun and engaging role, from brainstorming ideas to seeing everything come together on the day, there’s something really rewarding about receiving great feedback and constant sell outs!! Plus, it’s given me the chance to work with some amazing people who I wouldn’t have otherwise met.
What does your role require you to do?
I’m responsible for planning and organising a range of events throughout the year, these are usually our bigger social events such as ‘Meet the Committee’, our Easter & Summer Social and the Annual Winter Ball which is our biggest and most elaborate event of the year. For the last couple of years, I have also organised an event throughout our mental health May series, we have had Puppy Yoga and Pilates. Essentially, I source the venue, negotiate food and drink options and plan entertainment within whatever budget is allocated to that event. On the day of the event, I review the guestlist and greet our lovely attendees. You’ll usually see me running around to ensure that everything is running smoothly.
