Choose your Leeds JLD Committee for 2024
CHARITY & EDUCATION OFFICER:
Rachael Barthel

I would like to join the committee as I am passionate about bringing junior lawyers together at the start of their career. This makes a great difference to the support network available to those starting out in law which can otherwise be an overwhelming experience. I often have conversations with others wanting to join the profession and feel passionately about helping and supporting others. Hearing other’s positive experiences with JLD has encourage me to apply alongside my own experience of the events over the last 2 years.

I am approachable and enjoy being a friendly face to others. I take my commitments seriously and pride myself on being punctual and reliable. I am particularly interested in the Charity and Education Officer role as the reason I decided to become a lawyer was through my interest in social justice. I am on the Charitable Committee at Clarion and feel very passionate about giving back to the community that we live and work in. I have planned a number of events at the firm to get others involved in our Charitable initiative working with my colleagues at all levels and liaising with the charities themselves.

I spoke with Sophie at the recent Financial Wellbeing Event and she gave me an overview of what the role entails. I would be able to bring my previous experience including dealing with charities; working with others; problem solving and organisation to the role. I enjoy working with others and I am also comfortable with public speaking / presenting and networking with others.
