Hi, I am Darcey, the Vice Chair of Leeds JLD and an Associate in the Commercial team at Mills & Reeve.
How does a regular day go for you?
I advise clients in the public sector on complex commercial contracts in a range of sectors including the government and defence. My role also includes advising authorities and bidders on a range of public procurement matters.
My days often involve reviewing and advising on contracts, procurement documents and the client’s strategy.
With the nature of my work my role involves a lot of travel. I recently completed a client secondment, the secondment was a fantastic opportunity to gain deeper insight into the client’s business, build on relationships, and contribute to the business.
What made you want to get involved with the LJLD Committee?
I found Leeds JLD after moving to Leeds for my training contract. I often attended events and found it a great opportunity to meet other junior lawyers in Leeds! The lead me to apply for the National Representative role. Following my first year on the committee I stepped into the Publicity Officer role which I really enjoyed and loved being able to update all our socials and the website before landing into the role of Vice Chair.
What does your role require you to do?
Vice Chair sees me supporting all members of the committee in any capacity that may be. In particular, I step into the role of Chair when Sophie is unavailable e.g. chairing the committee meetings.
This year I organised the Pride afterparty on behalf of Leeds Law society and Leeds JLD which was a great event! I also have the chance to be in touch with our sponsors regularly who without them we would not have the events we do.
Vice Chair is such a good all-round role and allows you to get to grips with all aspects of Leeds JLD before stepping into the role of Chair the following year.
